Bouraima’s journey to be reunited with his family is a testament to hope and perseverance. Having fled Togo in 2018, he faced a long separation from his loved ones, a yearning only a parent can understand.

For 13 months, Bouraima found himself detained at Winn Correctional Center. During a challenging time, fate intervened, and he met Lara Nochomovitz, a dedicated attorney who recognized the injustice of his situation, took on his case, and helped him secure political asylum in 2020.

But the fight wasn’t over. Bouraima’s heart ached for his family, particularly his youngest daughter, who was just six months old when he left Togo. Every day was a struggle, knowing they were miles apart.

However, Bouraima never gave up hope. He tirelessly worked towards reuniting with his family, and his efforts finally paid off. Thanks to the tireless advocacy of Lara and our NGO partner, Each Step Home, Miles4Migrants’ donors, Bouraima’s dream became a reality.

The heartwarming photos and video we have received capture the pure joy of their reunion at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). After years of separation, Bouraima can finally hold his loved ones close once again.

This emotional story exemplifies the power of resilience and the life-changing impact of collaboration between Miles4Migrants and our dedicated NGO partners like Each Step Home. By supporting our organization, you can help reunite more families like Bouraima’s, ensuring no one faces the pain of separation alone. Donate today and be a part of creating happy endings like this one.

How Miles4Migrants helps

We collaborate with a network of global non-governmental organization (NGO) partners who work directly with refugees and migrants to identify and verify individuals who are financially unable to afford air travel. Once our partners submit flight requests, we use donated frequent flyer miles, credit card points, travel vouchers, and cash to eliminate transportation barriers for the most vulnerable individuals affected by war, persecution, or climate disaster. Our goal is to help these individuals reunite with their loved ones and start a new life in a safe environment.
