Amir’s Persistent Quest for Family Reunion

Amir’s story began in an Iranian refugee camp. It is a tale of hardship, resilience, and unwavering determination to build a better life for his family. His parents, fleeing Afghanistan’s violence, found refuge in the camp, shaping his life’s trajectory.

As life in Iran posed challenges for Afghan refugees with limited rights and deportation threats looming, he recognized a brighter future for his children lay beyond Iran’s borders. With courage and resolve, he embarked on a journey to lead his family out.

Their path led them to Turkey, where Amir and his brother ventured into Europe’s treacherous journey. In Belgium, after navigating a complex asylum process, they could finally initiate family reunification for Amir’s wife, children, and his 85-year-old mother.

The path was fraught with obstacles, and life as refugees in Turkey proved challenging and frustrating. Yet, the goal of family reunification fueled their perseverance.

The immeasurable relief of being together again, as a family, in the safety of Belgium was palpable. Amir and his family found solace and gratitude in their newfound security, acknowledging their successful reunion owed to our partner Caritas Belgium and Miles4Migrants’ support.

With heartfelt gratitude, the family expressed their special appreciation for the assistance provided to Amir’s elderly mother. During border control, she was denied entry, causing her to miss her flight. The resulting stress was overwhelming, but Miles4Migrants stepped in, ensuring she boarded the next available flight, reuniting her with her family without further delay.

The family’s journey, marked by sacrifice and determination, mirrors Miles4Migrants’ broader mission – to reunite families torn apart by adversity. Amir’s story is a testament to the transformative power of collective efforts, demonstrating how organizations like Miles4Migrants can bring hope and transform lives in desperate need.

How Miles4Migrants helps

We collaborate with a network of global non-governmental organization (NGO) partners who work directly with refugees and migrants to identify and verify individuals who are financially unable to afford air travel. Once our partners submit flight requests, we use donated frequent flyer miles, credit card points, travel vouchers, and cash to eliminate transportation barriers for the most vulnerable individuals affected by war, persecution, or climate disaster. Our goal is to help these individuals reunite with their loved ones and start a new life in a safe environment.

Support our work

– According to the United Nations, there are currently 108 million individuals forcibly displaced from their homes worldwide.

– The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that seeking asylum is a fundamental human right. Everyone has the right to life and liberty. Everyone has the right to freedom from fear. Everyone has the right to seek asylum from persecution.

As migration is often the last option for survival, migrants may embark on clandestine journeys, subject to danger, extortion, and inhumane conditions

Once they finally get legal approval for resettlement, migrants face another challenge that makes the journey seem impossible: the transportation costs.

There are many ways for you to get involved and help us continue our work:

You can donate cash to help us cover operational expenses or contribute your unused air miles, credit card points, or travel vouchers to help us book flights for refugees and asylum seekers.
