5 Million Mile Challenge

On World Refugee Day 2019, TripAdvisor launched a 5 Million Mile Challenge - a mission to donate 5 million miles by the end of 2019 to help relocate and reunite those who have been displaced.

To help address the largest mass displacement of people in history – Miles4Migrants is dedicated to using donated frequent flyer miles, points and money for the relocation of those displaced by war, persecution, politics and more. Since 2016, they have booked over 1,000 flights, which equals 1,000 family members reunited in safe, new homes.

How Does it Work?

When you donate miles, you’re pledging to fulfill a future case from one of our partner organizations. Our flight booking team will find the most efficient use of miles for each received case. Once we have a case that matches your specific pledge, we’ll work with you to book the flights.

What miles are most useful?

We accept miles from many airline loyalty programs; however, based on the most frequent requests for departure/arrival locations, certain programs are used more frequently than others.

The most needed miles and points donations are:

  • United Airlines
  • American Airlines
  • Alaska Airlines
  • Southwest Airlines
  • Flying Blue (Air France, KLM, Garuda, et al.)
  • American Express Membership Rewards
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • Capital One Rewards
  • Air Canada/Aeroplan

Why do you have minimum donation amounts?

The minimum donation amounts reflect airline programs’ lowest single passenger award fare that Miles4Migrants can book for a refugee, asylum seeker, or asylee.

What about cash donations?

While our primary purpose is to use airline miles to book flights, these award flights often incur additional taxes/fees. Cash donations help us to cover those extra costs!
