Mark Ayoub Memorial
Mark changed the lives of so many people and he will be missed terribly by his Miles4Migrants family. Mark's family is asking for donations to Miles4Migrants in lieu of flowers.
Here are a few words from our volunteers that show just a few ways that Mark made a huge impact on both our mission and our personal lives.
Mark was always willing to help and added fun and an incredible wealth of knowledge to our flight booking chat group. It won’t be the same without him.
Mark was such a passionate, enthusiastic person, so dedicated to engendering positive social change, obviously loving the opportunities he had to explore the world, helping people. I’m glad I had a chance to meet him in March. He’s going to be hugely missed everywhere.
I met Mark in Tibet a few years ago. He was open, incredibly giving, selfless, and had a giant (literally and figuratively) zest for life. He was the kind of person who invited you to his parents’ for Thanksgiving because you were new in town without family; over turkey, I found that many of his own family had gotten used to many strangers-turned-friends in their home because of his big heart. He also introduced me – and many others – to Miles4Migrants, as a function of his love for travel and commitment to equality and justice. He loved food and puns and was great at both. He was an inspiration all-around to live fully, live well and live selflessly.
I’m at a loss for words. I remember when he came to Austin to compete in a pun competition – I wished I knew him more.
How Does it Work?
When you donate miles, you’re pledging to fulfill a future case from one of our partner organizations. Our flight booking team will find the most efficient use of miles for each received case. Once we have a case that matches your specific pledge, we’ll work with you to book the flights.
We accept miles from many airline loyalty programs; however, based on the most frequent requests for departure/arrival locations, certain programs are used more frequently than others.
The most needed miles and points donations are:
- United Airlines
- American Airlines
- Alaska Airlines
- Southwest Airlines
- Flying Blue (Air France, KLM, Garuda, et al.)
- American Express Membership Rewards
- Chase Ultimate Rewards
- Capital One Rewards
- Air Canada/Aeroplan
The minimum donation amounts reflect airline programs' lowest single passenger award fare that Miles4Migrants can book for a refugee, asylum seeker, or asylee.
While our primary purpose is to use airline miles to book flights, these award flights often incur additional taxes/fees. Cash donations help us to cover those extra costs!
