Freedom for Immigrants
Freedom for Immigrants is a national nonprofit organization that monitors the human rights abuses faced by immigrants detained by ICE through a national hotline and network of volunteer detention visitors, while also modeling a community-based alternative to detention that welcomes immigrants into the social fabric of the United States. Through these windows into the system, we gather data and stories to combat injustice at the individual level and push systemic change.
Freedom for Immigrants has partnered with Miles4Migrants to raise pledges to help reunite asylees and asylum-seekers with their families and communities across the country. We’re thrilled that you’re interested in pledging your airline miles or credit card points.
Your pledges are crucial in reuniting communities impacted by the U.S. immigration system. FFI works to free people from immigration detention, and once released, submits flight requests to Miles4Migrants for those who cannot afford the airfare. These requests are fulfilled based on most urgent cases and the availability of miles and credit card points.
Thank you for supporting the freedom of immigrants and the asylum-seeking community!
How does it work?
When you donate miles, you’re pledging to fulfill a future case from one of our partner organizations. Our flight booking team will find the most efficient use of miles for each received case. Once we have a case that matches your specific pledge, we’ll work with you to book the flights.
We accept miles from many airline loyalty programs; however, based on the most frequent requests for departure/arrival locations, certain programs are used more frequently than others.
The most needed miles and points donations are:
- United Airlines
- American Airlines
- Alaska Airlines
- Southwest Airlines
- Flying Blue (Air France, KLM, Garuda, et al.)
- American Express Membership Rewards
- Chase Ultimate Rewards
- Capital One Rewards
- Air Canada/Aeroplan
The minimum donation amounts reflect airline programs' lowest single passenger award fare that Miles4Migrants can book for a refugee, asylum seeker, or asylee.
While our primary purpose is to use airline miles to book flights, these award flights often incur additional taxes/fees. Cash donations help us to cover those extra costs!
